Shove-fest / all-in tournaments
In a shove-fest or all-in tournament, players go all-in preflop by design, either forced every hand or with stacks so short that shoving is the only real option. Global Poker's Gold Digger shovefests are one example.
How it works
Skill is mostly about knowing which hands to shove or call given stack sizes and payouts. Variance is very high and games are fast.
With an all-in format and 10 players at the table, hands resolve in seconds, so a 4,000-player field can finish in under an hour.
Strategy tips
- Know basic push/fold charts. They are the main skill edge.
- Near payouts, tighten your calling range a lot.
- Accept variance: short-term results are mostly luck.
- Fold weak aces and junk when covered by multiple stacks.
Common mistakes
- Expecting skill to show over a single event
- Calling too wide when payouts are close
🔎 Know who you're up against
When everyone's all-in preflop, the only real decision is calling ranges, so knowing who shoves anything and who waits for big hands is most of the edge. Your own results history shows whether your shove-or-fold ranges are working.
